The Triangle Bar-B-Q
The Triangle Bar-B-Q was the first drive-in in Benton, Arkansas. Once located in one of the oldest plats of the city, it served as many different things throughout the years. In the days in which it housed the Triangle Bar-B-Q it was the most popular hang-out for young teens. The place was designated as the weekend hangout, especially after Friday night football games and Saturday night movies.
Chester Hankins, and wife, Louise, opened the Triangle in 1947 and operated it until 1974. They said that it was a second home to many young people and Hankins was a mentor to them.
The history of the Triangle is long-lasting in Saline County. It is just as old as the town, county records showing the lot as early as 1836, at the west of Military Road. However, the building did not come later, when the construction of a filling station came in to the plot.
